“I had a million toys and, but I was bored. So I climbed into the attic .”

This is the beginning of En el desván (In the attic), the story that inspires us. This beautiful book by Satoshi Kitamura and Hiawyn Oram shows that imagination knows no limits: it allows us to know the details of a family of mice, fly over beautiful blue cities, and even become friends with a tiger to play a game that never ends.

 

Our proposal recovers the attic space as a world that is both mysterious and familiar. A place where we will not be able to know what will happen until we get inside.

What is El desván? ​

 

It is a readers encounter for Spanish-speaking babies, children and families based in Munich, which invites them to find possibilities of expression, pleasure and knowledge through books.

 

Our aims

 

  • To promote pleasure for reading and a sensitivity towards literary works from early childhood.

  • To encourage contact with a variety of formats, genres, authors and illustrators.

  • To foster early literacy.

  • Support the transmission of Spanish as a heritage language.

  • To generate spaces for reflection among adult caregivers on reading in the first years of life.

  • To create a community of readers among Spanish-speaking families.

 

Our proposals

  • Reading Club for families with babies from 8 months to 3 years old.

  • Reading club for families with children aged 3 and 4.

  • Reading club for children from 4 to 7 years old.

  • Face-to-face and virtual courses - aimed at adults - to learn how to help children in their literacy process and to promote pleasure for reading from early childhood.
